About Whit
My experiences might easily fit many cycling fans' definitions of “living the dream.†Since getting hooked on the sport watching Lance Armstrong win the 1993 U.S. Pro Championship, I've raced as an amateur on Belgian cobbles, traveled Europe to help build a European pro team, and piloted that team from Malaysia to Mont Ventoux. As a former assistant director sportif with Mercury-Viatel, I've also seen the less dreamy side of the sport – the side rife with broken contracts, infighting, and positive dope tests. These days, I live with my lovely wife in Pennsylvania and share my experiences and views on the sport at Bicycling Magazine, the Embrocation Cycling Journal, and at my own site, Pavé.
if only all news outlets were this honest about "covering" press conferences.
chapeau.
SERIOUSLY. The presentation made me want to root against
Jens and Fabian, not an easy task.
And all the games with the media were because….they are yet another team without a title sponsor! As I've stated before, in order to be a publicity stunt, there needs to be something to publicize.
If the "number 1 ranked team" can't find a title sponsor, what does that say about the longer term viability of the program and the sport?
I'm going to go on ahead and predict something far less than the sum of its parts…
The formation of this team and the hoopla surrounding it
reminds me of the Lebron James/Miami Heat debacle. I have a feeling
a lot of people will root against this
"superteam" despite the popular riders on the
roster.
Your supposed to read between the blank stares then stand up and applaud the dreamteam.
